War of the Worlds

Last night War of the Worlds was on BBC. My family hadn't seen it before but I had many many times so i was reluctant to watch it again.
I'm really glad i did now. It is one of those timeless classic films that seems to get better every time you watch. Tom Cruise portrays not a hero, but someone merely trying to do what he can in the face of insurmountable odds, a concept which many films have tried but failed in the process.
The film begins with Ray (Cruise) Taking the children for the weekend when the Martians invade. he then tries to reach his wife in Boston to return his kids. Theres very little i can say without spoiling some aspect or another of the film but safe to say its not only the alien war-machines that are a threat to the Family, and throughout the impact on humanity is conveyed, desperation, anger and fear.
well worth a watch if you haven't already seen it and if you have, well theres no excuse not to again.
And on an end note Dakota fanning s talent still puts many A listers to shame, and probably always will.
